The Emu Swamp Dam was declared a "significant project" by the State Government, and required an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971. The scope of the technical studies for the EIS was based on the Terms of Reference issued by the Coordinator-General in July 2007.
The purpose of the EIS is to identify impacts on the natural, social, cultural or economic environment. It also outlines how the project can be managed to maximise positive environmental impacts and proposes actions to eliminate or mitigate any negative impacts.
The Executive Summary, the full EIS consisting of 21 separate Sections, the Appendices and five Technical Reports are available for download below. The files available on this website for download have been compressed to make them easier to download, and the files are of a low resolution. If you find that any of the documents, especially the graphs and figures in the Technical Reports, are not legible, please contact Council for a free CD-ROM containing all the files at print quality resolution.
If you would like to receive the EIS on CD-ROM, a copy is available free of charge by phoning the Engineering Department at Stanthorpe Shire Council on 07 4681 5544 or emailing eis@stanthorpe.qld.gov.au. Alternatively, a hard copy of the EIS with a CD may be purchased from Stanthorpe Shire Council for $150. Hard copies of the Executive Summary are also available free of charge by phoning the Engineering Department at Stanthorpe Shire Council on 07 4681 5544 or emailing eis@stanthorpe.qld.gov.au.
Hard copies of the full EIS will be on public exhibition at the Stanthorpe Shire Council offices, 61 Marsh Street, Stanthorpe, and at the Stanthorpe Shire Library 56 Lock Street, Stanthorpe from 14 January 2008 to 25 February 2008.
Stanthorpe Shire Council will also have a stall at the Stanthorpe Agricultural Show with hard copies of the full EIS on display, and free copies of the CD and Executive Summary document available. The stall will be located in the Exhibition Centre on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 February 2008. Staff from Stanthorpe Shire Council will be at the stall from 9am to 4pm to answer queries about the EIS and the project.
